This is sad, and true, and entirely representative of human history up until this point. Question is, how do we fix it?

About the annoying one: several years ago my company was in the final throes of a “standardization” project which still raises my blood pressure if I think about it. After implementation of this splendid new process, different date formats are still in use, sometimes even on the same screen in the database.
