Jen Rhee sent me a link to a graphic that she and her team put together on girls in science and tech fields. There’s nothing in there that surprises me, but they’ve done a nice job pulling it together. I’m too busy doing science right now to have much to say about it, but I wanted to share, and I’d welcome any comments.

The computer science number really surprises me.
Which one, and in which direction?
That only 24.1% as many women work in computer science, programming and related disciplines. My experience has been much closer to 40%-ish, and my company skews a bit older than the average technology focused company. (Average employee age is 39 or 40). Our office is half women, in technical or technical management (came up through the ranks) roles.
Wait. I’m not applying my statistics right. The above numbers are, I believe, using male employees as a basis and female as the percentage. In my organization, the *split* is 40/60 – which would mean 66.67% as many female employees as male work there.
